DAY FIVE - MORETON BAY (ISLAND)
oh yeah~ 4WD! here we come! moreton bay is one of the many islands present around queensland. it is a very beautiful island and houses one of the biggest place for sandboard. it's based on ecotourism, so there's no real roads and thus u have to be in a 4WD to get around and there's basically just one path to everywhere. so when two 4WD comes head to head, one of them just have to give way. this is definitely not ur usual tourist stuff that ppl usually do. try it out!

i'm at the desert. it's seriously called that. and so becos it's just a very very large piece of sandy land.

i'm gonna conquer the mount desert! have u tried hiking on sand? it's horribly tiring, but it's hard for u to fall backwards.

preparing for sandboarding~ it drizzled a little before we came thus, the sand was abit wet and so we could not have gone as far as usual but still did a very good job. take a look at the video below!

know why it's called blue lagoon? cos it's bluuee~

next stop! the lighthouse! we're actually around 100m above sealevel. it's really really REALLY windy and beautiful to just look at the sea. take a look at the view urself from the video.

no more pictures were taken after this. it was great fun to tour around like this. but it really is tiring. 姐, rmb our dates for CNY next yr! :] have fun in ur trips!

this is what happens when ur family is all around the world. u onli get to see each other once a year. if ure lucky, all of u get to see everyone during that once a year, otherwise, you might not get to have a family gathering for long. no matter how connected the world has become, it's different when u don't get to be with the physical being. but well, one year will pass fast.

uni has started and well, it's definitely not gonna be easy conquering all yr 2 and yr 3 subj. but i'll still gambatte. and i've decided to join more activities this sem had many group gatherings in the last few days and it's really tiring esp during the weekends when u have to wait for half hour for the public transport. and hopefully, by the end of this yr, i can converse in jap. AND. getting a part time job here aint easy man. i've even applied to the supermarket and places similar to that. but, there's an economic recession. so yeah. i'll just see if anyone wants to give me a job.

i will make 2009 the year of change for me.

imagine you've just gone gyming and am super tired and hungry. you come home to see this picture of a fanstatic home cooked curry, but yet u cant have it cos it's a few thousand km away from you. how sad! my dad's mean!

i'm SO counting down to the days i'm going home. but i still have to conquer my finals first. this is the last week of school. and finals starts next sat for me. wish me luck man. after my finals, i can then get really excited about going home! anyone wants to go out with me when i go home?

and i have to stop making my life so miserable next semester by cooking proper food for my meals. imagine eating porridge with cai xin when ure not sick but just cos u have no other food. how sad. no wonder lulu says i'm leading a old man/sick man/and a soon to be rabbit lifestyle.

anyway, all the fruits that u see from the previous post is all i have in my fridge. hope i can just survive thru these last few weeks here. gambatte! :]

i finally went grocery shopping! and bought alot of fruits! i realise that real blueberries taste nothing like the blueberry taste that i know of. raspberries are similar to the norm that i know, but eating the actual fruit.. it's simply interesting :]

and i voted for my student union today! they really had the polling station like in the U.S and what not. it's quite cool actually. tho i think they waste alot of envelopes. cos we had to seal our votes in a smaller envelope, then seal the small envelope in another bigger envelope. but anyway, couldn't take much picture cos my phone camera can't be silenced.

i have yet to show u evidence that spring is here right? there's this particular type of tree that blooms purple flowers in spring. the flowers wither very fast too. but it's really nice to see a bunch of lovely purple in a mist of greens. furthermore, this flower has a legend in UQ. if it falls on ur head, ure doomed to fail ur examinations.

SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED! i'm FREE from assignments for the rest of the semester!! which is not that big a deal seeing how i only have 2 more week (including this week) left. but still! i don't have to work with my group members anymore! that totally calls for a celebration. i'm not a meanie but if any of you worked with my group members, you will celebrate when it's over too.

ANYWAY! i think i finally figured out the problem with my so called insomnia. i always watching some shows before i sleep. so, watching those shows just make my mind more awake or something. i actually read my uni's newsletter yesterday and fell asleep after four pages! hahaha. i miss my cleo! i miss reading magazines. magazines here are expensive. an avg magazine like cleo or seventeen cost between 8 to 10 bucks here. oh wells, i'll read newsletters instead. :]

i've discovered a nice jap show called nodame cantabile. people who like music (it's more towards classical music) should watch this show. it's nice! :] this is my last series until my finals are over. should start stocking up food for my studying period too.

i'm getting so depressed! or maybe i should just call it sad. but i'm way more than sad. it's in between sad and depressed so.. sapressed.

why am i sapressed?

I CAN'T FALL ASLEEP! or rather it takes me VERY long to fall asleep! it took me a record timing for FOUR hours just to fall asleep yesterday. maybe it's cos i sleep too much here? i'm like getting my 8 hours of sleep almost everyday (except fridays) and so, i can't fall asleep! which is so sad! i really want to get into the habit of sleeping early and waking up early. but yet, my stupid body only allows me to fall asleep after 2. i miss being able to fall asleep immediately. maybe i should tire myself out more and like force myself to slp onli 5 to 6 hours per day. but who in the right mind would do that? at least not me.

i actually dreamt that i was attacked by a big white turkey! omg! nightmares about turkeys.. hahaha :] the turkeys have entered my life~ aaaaaaahhhhhh!

anyway, college network SUCKS! (for the uninitiated: college refers to hostel over here). apparently, they have done some upgrading and the network became very very slow after that. imagine waiting for 15 mins for a page to open. and 4 out of 5 times, it doesn't open up properly. it's hell trying to do my work when i need to research on the web. so, i've booked a single study room in the law lib (my favourite library). so here i am blogging about it using the school's internet! or rather, it's still my account.

next yr, they're gonna increase our download quota to 400MB! whoots! for those who do not know, all students are given 200MB free each month to surf the net. and 200 MB is not alot. it gets deducted every time u open an internet page. if there's more graphics, it will deduct more! and since i live on campus, i have to buy additional quota to use the internet properly. it's like 1gb for 10 bucks. how expensive. i miss youtubing.

anyway, so i've been here in the law lib for more than 2 hours already and i have yet to start studying. naughty me. but well, can't blame me for trying to reply all my emails and to get the relevant documents off the net can we. :]

i'm trying to start anew today. like really focus on studying and start gyming again. the gyming ashley is trying to triumph the lazy bones ashley. let's see how that works out..

anyway, the toilet here reminds me of airplanes. it's not small, it's just the smell. the second time, it reminded me of changi airport. once again, becos of the smell. maybe i'm just too eager to go back home. it's like, i keep thinking about what i'm gonna do the day i go home and the food i'm gonna eat in sg. i'm going home soon! but not that soon! i have to settle my FINALS first! YIKES.

this is SO exciting!! :] I've not only passed thru the interview to be a team member in AIESEC, I've been allocated to a team (of my dream)! I'm now part of the AIESEC UQ's Leadership Development Taskforce! doesn't it sound me totally?! grinne :] So, i'll be under the Talent Management team in AIESEC. so exciting right? and we're having our first meeting this sunday! doesn't matter that it's on my birthday since this is something i wanted! what a great birthday gift from Him. :]

Of course, to top it off! i've received mail! i wonder who it's from! shall go collect it either tmr or friday. this is SO exciting!

there's a reason why my strong dislike towards econs will never fade. after enduring two yrs of that nonsense, i have to do like two more sems of the same thing. i'm fine with doing it again. but it's always this subj that gives me trouble. printing the notes for this course always jam my printer. and mind u, my printer is brand new. and the lecturer, is forever making mistakes in his slides. it makes ppl wonder about his abilities. once or twice is fine. but every lecture? and now, for this course, they posted an announcement saying no tutorials on week 8 (i checked ytd before going to slp). so fine, since this is week 7, i still went. and there was only four person in the tutorial. and the tutor went thru last week's work again. i was just thinking "what a waste of time" throughout. anyway, when i came back, i just saw the amendment in the announcement. no tutorials on week 7!. omg. i totally wasted my time there for nothing. sighhs. am just complaining cos i'm did not enough sleep. these annoying things only seem to happen with this subj.. i wonder why!

anyway, i finally went to pilates yesterday.. i miss doing all the different postures. i'm definitely going back again! i just love the feeling of training the core muscle! whootS!

Another friday has reached. i have a love-hate relationship with fridays. i love it cos it's the last school day for the week and i get to go to lifegroup and crap with a bunch of fabulous friends. but i hate it cos it's my earliest day and alternate fridays, i have school from 8 till 4pm. aint exactly my idea of fun for the last school day of the week.

anyway, i was too lazy to update the previous entry. so basically, i'm struck down by a cold this week!and the forever cold temperature doesn't help in the speedy recovery. anyway, i hate cold. it's so hard to breathe when i'm hiking all over school. but well, the good thing is, i think i have developed some abs muscle just by blowing my nose day in and out. (or maybe the muscle ache is just from the gym session on monday - who knows?)

tmr marks the very start of my midsem exams!! i'm not panickin. but it just sucks that while i wanna do practices for it, i have to settle my law quiz by today at 5pm. and next week, there's two exams and a quiz. oh joy. while doing all these, i still have to ensure that i don't fall back on my tutes. grinne :] part and parcel of uni life eh?

anyway, today my stats teacher gave me a question that i had a hard time figuring out the answer. the question was "what are the strengths of ur tutor?" i'm not being mean here but i really dun like the way he teaches the subj. maybe i'm just too used to miss foo and miss goh's (oops! i mean mdm goh's) method. the way it makes student think. i thot uni was to make students think?

anyway, i just got issued a memo that there would be random checks on the hostel next tues. hmms.. should i put on my best dress when the principal comes? hahaha.. fond memories of sec school.

the river festival begins tmr! there would be a magnificent display of fireworks (i'm not kidding.) but seeing how i have so much to do and so little time, guess i just have to watch it on the telly.

i've been bitten by the flu bug.. :(. and when i told dexter about it, he just said "so late? it's the end of the flu season." wth.. he's just evil. anyway, i'm trying to drown myself in water for today.. and i have started studying for my mid sem. grinne :] two more weeks and i'll be free! the annoying thing about this mid sem is that while ure trying to study for it, u still have to keep up with the normal lectures and do the tutorials. i must learn to stretch my time for now. :] that's why i've begun to hibernate! i have like done all the cooking i need for one week. so, i have food for one week! and all i need to do is to pop it in the microwave or reheat it. alrights, this is end of my first break. but i still have loads to say.. so, wait till the next break!

Life here is deathly boring. don't get me wrong, i have tons of tutes to finish and readings to catch up on. In fact, my midsem exams are in two weeks' time. "so why aren't u studying?" - some of u may ask that. but it's just so boring here that u just can't continue doing anything. it's similar to the concept of a deafening silence making u go crazy.

interestingly, i started being so bored so quickly ever since i stepped down as a councillor. but back home, i could annoy my parents. i have no one here to annoy. or rather, no one is bounded to the responsibility to entertain me simply cos i have no personal relation with anyone here. i guess i'm just used to being a leader since i've assumed roles of leaderships for 6 years already. well, i finally found a society that i'm interested here. it's called AIESEC. it stands for a very long name. but basically, it is in some ways similar to council. it is run by students. it describes itself as “The international platform for young people to discover and develop their potential so as to have a positive impact on society” basically, there's a few level to this society. there's the core team, those who wants to go on internship and other members. the coreteam organises overseas internship opportunities for students here. and it serves as a place that the youths of today can meet and basically have international contact for the future. let's face it, the world is getting smaller.

so anyway, there are several committee in the team. committees like finance, incoming exchange, outgoing exchange, etcetc. and since this is at uni level, they really have to scout for companies and present AIESEC to the companies and ask if there are internships available and what not. this is like council only on a bigger scale. :] and isn't it so expected of me to join? grinne :] but i have to pass the interview first. they're only accepting around 4-8 ppl into the team this sem. imagine i have to be compared with so many other people who are interested, seeing how this is opened to everyone in uni. well, wish me luck!!

today is my lucky day!

i feared going to accounting tutorial today, cos i know like by next week, i have to form my group for the assignment that will be given after the mid sem exams. my accounting tutorial is the only tutorial that i feel so lonely. seeing how most of them are doing double degree and they all already knew each other and are all in cliques. so firstly, i fear not being able to find a group. and secondly, i was a science student! what the hell am i doing in accounting? but yeah, i manage to catch on real quick so now, i'm teaching some of my classmates! :] anyway.. i was targeting this guy to be my groupmate. not for the reasons that i know u all are thinking of. but simply becos he seems to at least know what's going on in the course and looks eager to learn, aka, actually care about his grade. and also, he isn't annoying like another guy in the class. so yeah, but i have no idea how to ask him or even bring it up to him seeing how i dun talk to him. but we stayed back after class today, and he was voicing his worries about the grouping to the tutor and yeah, since i was there, and i helped him during class today, he asked me if i wanna join him in a group. to which i gladly accepted. grinne :] finally, the gnawing feeling about having no group is gone!

Back to words for a while.. why must my mid sem exams be on saturdays!!!! two consecutive saturdays nonetheless. it's a blessing in disguise of some sort. cos i have exams on 3oth aug, 5th and 6th sept. then after that, i'm done with my midsems and can celebrate my bday the boring way. maybe i can blow up some balloons and put it in my room for that day. oh! and also, since my exams end on 6th, i get to go to dreamworld on 13th sept!! i'm SO looking forward to it! we're getting slightly more than halfprice off the original price, $66 bucks. and someone kindly sponsered the money for the chartered bus that would bring us there and back. and hopefully, since we're going during school term, it's not gonna be that pack. what more can i ask for? back to pictures.. :]

BAWLS. okay, need to conserve energy to tahan until my housemate finishes bathing. this requires tons of effort seeing how it's damn cold here and i drank a bottle of water. -_-"' wish me luck.. :]

can u see my true feelings under this facade? why have i become so emo ever since i come here? it is true that i'm here all alone and everything. but this is not me. this is so not me. i'm supposed to be bubbly. i'm supposed to be happy. i'm supposed to be enjoying life. on the surface, i am all those. but yet, why does the i get so emo and feel so down whenever i think that she's not around me anymore?

today's fireworks at ekka was great. but it kinda made me sad to think that i have no loved or close ones around me to enjoy it together. i hope those couples and close friends who got to spend this time together realise how lucky they are to have each other. i felt so alone in the world then. but when i reached home, a kind soul reminded me that He is always with us. so i'm never alone.

i never realised how much i missed her until her one sentence "got me!" melted all my sadness away. and her words of comfort makes me feel like i'm back with her.

see. i told u i had become emo. i SO hate it. it waste alot of the precious water that i manage to drink given how cold it is here, so u tend to forget to drink water. and it wastes alot of tissue to wipe away the tears too. i'm on a tight budget man! and even my stomach hates that i'm being emo. it's giving me gastric problems now.

i need to exercise daily. it helps me to not think about all this. or rather, they release a "happy" chemical in my brain. so i wont think about all these. this is just part and parcel of living overseas. i dun have to be emo about it. i really need to get a life. hahaha. if there's actually one for me to get here.

ANYWAY, enough of emo-ing. i went ekka today! and it is a public holiday! it's a major carnival with tons of things to buy, food to eat, rides to go on, animals to see, circus to cheer. i even bought a wonka hat from the event! and the major highlight was the last segment of the perfomance held in the stadium. it had motorcross, monster truck and tons of really really cool racing! and last but not least. it had fireworks. it was RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME! grinne :] i stupidly didn't bring my camera into the place cos i took their "rules" too seriously. stupid me. no point regretting. i'll just wait one yr later and take the pictures and put it up again :]

today i saw a really sweet couple at ekka. i dunno what their story is but i really hope they remain together. or even to become a real couple if they're just frieinds. the look of love in their eyes looks genuine, i wish that good things will happen to them :] made me think alot about him. i miss him..

omg. i cant believe i rmb my econs stuff. change in demand, change in quantity demanded. ceteris paribus. and it's coming so naturally to me. oh my god. but i still dun like econs. it doesn't like me either. the stupid econs notes jammed my printer and gave my printer so much problems yesterday.

have u ever wonder why mothers or maids are so strong? they get their strength training by cooking!! hahah :] my arm actually aches from cooking yesterday! should perhaps consider in investing in a lighter frying pan. :]

it's freakingly cold right now.. that's what happens when u try to air ur room and blast ur fan at the highest power. anyway, i finally got my care package from my mommy! :] more jackets! grinne :] and my stats notes!!!! so precious to me! :] in case ure wondering, i'm actually doing stats and microecons this sem. so it's like.. alot of things are repeated but yet, they explain it in such lousy terms. anyone wants to send me their econs notes?

officially, school has started for me and today marks the beginning of the third week i'm here! in these two weeks, i've explored quite abit, thus, i have tons of pictures to show. just some impt info first. :] i have gotten my aussie number, if u want it, email me at my sch's email and i'll tell u. u can always sms me at my sg number without any extra cost incurred to u or me. and i'll reply with my aussie number. i'm super bored here, so i'll most prob reply u when i read the msg :]

there's a taiwanese shop in the back alley of the city. it's seriously a back alley. this place sells bubble tea. but at a ridiculous price! 3.50AUD for one simple cup of milk tea that we can easily get for 1.20SGD or 1.50SGD. but i really like it there cos they keep playing mtv. so it just reminds me of the times i have with my friends in kbox.

their city seems small. or maybe it's cos i have not explore everything. but city back home means a huge place. here, it just refers to queen st mall. hmms..

anyway, we went to my friend's colleges to explore a little.

HELLO TO ALL!! :] I AM IN AUSTRALIA! :] enjoying wintertime none the less :]

i have boarded a nature hiking school. okay.. that doesn't make sense. well, the entire school is filled with uphills and downhills. tons of steep ones. so basically, as i walk around school, i actually have to hike up and down :]

and it gets dark here super early like at 5. and by 530. it's complete darkness, the kind that u may experience when it's midnight. actually, u'll nv experience it in sg cos there's too many streetlamps back home. here is basically dark. so, from 530 till i slp, i have to entertain myself. and all the shops generally closes around 5 too! hahaha.. anyway, thank god they play F.R.I.E.N.D.S everyday at 530.. or was it 6? i lost concept of time here.. :]

portable heater :] since my room is small, it's right next to my bed and table.. :] my butt is nice and warm! anyway, dun underestimate this heater. it kept my room very toasty at night. so warm till i dint know it was raining this morning.

the temp here is around 17-20. at night, around 7 :] when it rains, it's quite cold. otherwise, it's generally okay :] at night and when it's raining, u can blow smoke!!

i finally caved and bought a proper meal today. [for yest's dinner and today bf, i simply ate one sliced of bread buttered with jam. other than that, i got no food. so kelian right?] this burger alone, cost 4.10bucks. it's like hamburger. inside just that thin patty with two slices of beetroot and two slices of tomato. well, what can i expect right? they charge 1 bucks for a normal sandwich, actually, cant call it sandwich. i shall call it, 2 slices of bread buttered with vegemite (similar to marmite). 1 buck leh! then the price increase till 4 buck when they put vege inside -_-"'
